Aunt Dinah Block
This quilt uses the block called Aunt Dinah (shown to the right of the quilt) and is made from several photographs I shot of Japonica blossoms (also known as Quince) in early spring. The color of the Japonica blossoms has always fascinated me and I was thrilled to capture it so faithfully with this quilt. The intersecting and overlapping diamonds created by the Aunt Dinah block creates a fascinating pattern. The photograph I chose for the center of the block is actually the back of the blossom, but because of the way it is lit, you can see through it and the stamen detail is quite defined. I designed a unique Japonica quilting pattern for this quilt which shows the thorns found on the branches.
